There’s a lot of room for success too. They have over 70 million registered users across North America and Australia, and there’s a sale completed every second in the US market. Pretty tempting if you’re looking to make some money online!

All that said, every business venture (even the online ones) requires some knowledge and research first. In this article, we’ll share some of the biggest Poshmark tips you need to know about if you’re going to succeed on the platform. Even if you’re a seasoned Poshmark seller, it’s never a bad idea to deep dive into the basics again.

From understanding how to list a best selling product, to using poshmark automation tools – we’ll walk you through all of the best poshmark tips to increase your sales!

Poshmark Tip #1: Know Your Audience!

The first Poshmark tip we have for you is that you should put some thought into what you list on Poshmark. Knowing your audience is part of business 101. You can’t sell properly if you don’t know who’s buying. And, this is applicable both when it comes to your actual product as well as the platform you choose to list on. Poshmark’s members, for example, are into fashion and name brands but they want it at a more affordable price. A vast majority identify as women and are between the ages of 18-35. The type of products that sell on Poshmark are somewhat different from other marketplaces like Depop.

Poshmark Tip #2: Make Your Images Look Good!

Good looking images are a key poshmark tip when it comes to selling on the platform. You should be taking images of your product as well as lifestyle shots. The idea is to show your customer the item on a clean and neutral background, but also in different real life settings. If it’s clothing, giving ideas on how to style it is super useful. The pictures themselves should have good lighting and be of high quality.

If this is something you don’t have access to, stock photos work just as well. Just make sure to add some original lifestyle snaps to show what the real item looks like in a natural setting, a good lifestyle shot could be what pushes a buyer to complete a purchase. You should note that it is generally good practice to cite where you got the product stock photo from if you are taking it from an online website/store and ask for permission when possible.

Poshmark Photo Tips – How to take great images for Poshmark

  • Take your photos in a well lit room
  • Use a decent camera
  • Ask for feedback on poshmark forums/groups on Facebook/Reddit
  • Consider modelling your clothes (This isn’t always possible/feasible but it may be worth testing out)
  • Show case all defects/features of the product

Poshmark Tip #3: Show Clarity In Your Listings

This Poshmark tip has to do with focusing on making the details of your listings clear. You need to put yourself in the shoes of a potential Poshmark buyer, what type of things would they expect to see in order to know if a product is for them or not. We’ve already talked about images in the previous poshmark tip and if you do that well you are on your way to doing well on poshmark. However, images are just one part of the listing (albeit a very important part).

Common things you will need to mention in either your title or description includes: brand, mentions of any defects on the product, model size (if you are modelling your clothes).

Doing this properly will end up saving you a whole lot of time in responding to any comments/posts by a potential buyer and will minimize the risk of dealing with returns. This poshmark tip is really all about empathy, think about what you would like to be highlighted/mentioned when you are buying online then do just that!

Would you buy your listing ? if not then it’s back to the drawing board, edit your listing to reflect what you’d like to see.

You can also enhance the clarity of your entire shop by nicheing down to a specific set/type of products, this way you can slowly grow a brand for your shop.

Poshmark Tip #4: Join Online Communities for Poshmark Sellers

Being a Poshmark Seller can get lonely at times! It feels like you are on your own individual journey, but don’t despair!

There are lots of online communities that can help you bond with other poshmark sellers and get tips. One of the largest public poshmark communities available is the Poshmark community on Reddit!:

https://reddit.com/r/poshmark

The benefit of this community is that you do not really need to do anything other than create a reddit account to join. Even If you already have a reddit account you only need to “subscribe” to the community in order to get new posts on your reddit feed, you can participate without subscribing. So in a sense it is one of the most open communities available for poshmark sellers regardless of the scale your business is currently at.

Another alternative outside of reddit is using poshmark Facebook groups.

You need to have a Facebook account and most poshmark facebook groups will require you to answer a few questions before you can join the group. These questions shouldn’t be too difficult/personal but there is still a chance of having your request to join being rejected (so it is more “closed” than the poshmark reddit community).

The best way to utilize these online groups to get poshmark tips is to be helpful and avoid spamming the group. Make sure you are abiding by the rules of whatever group you have joined. When participating in online communities you need to remember that before you can receive anything you need GIVE.

Support is only one of the benefits of joining a poshmark seller community, another benefit is that many communities frequently post engagement threads that allow you to gain more followers and visibility. This increased visibility can help you make more sales because many sellers on poshmark are also buyers themselves!

When you hesistate to involve other sellers in your reselling journey remember this quote:

if you want to go fast go alone if you want to go far go together

On a reselling platform as social as Poshmark it’d be wise to form connections!

Poshmark Tip #5: Regular new listings

Nowadays customers expect new and exciting things all the time. No such thing as slower timelines with brands like Zara and H&M pumping out new products every few weeks. Even if you’re a smaller business selling online, people still expect the same from you.

Unfortunately, it’s not just people that expect this but the poshmark algorithm expects this as well!

It keeps your store relevant if there are new things for people to browse, no one wants to be recommended old stuff they’ve seen before. Try uploading new stuff every week or so in order to stay at the forefront of your customer’s mind (and the algorithm’s feed).

Of course this can get hard especially if you don’t yet have a stable way to source products for your poshmark shop. You can also experiment with completely deleting and relisting items on poshmark to boost your sales (especially one’s that do not seem to sell after a very long time).

Our next tip will tak about a way that you can “renew” your poshmark listings, if you’ve been on Poshmark for a while then you probably already know this.

Poshmark Tip #6: Share your listings on poshmark

As one of the best Poshmark tips for a successful store, these ones should be at the top of your list. Poshmark is more social media based than other online marketplaces, so the act of sharing your listings is a huge way to get quick exposure. The more you share the more likely you are to catch future buyer’s eyes on the platform.

Keep in mind that sharing other seller’s listings can also be financially beneficial for you. If you can help someone else make a sale based on your followers, it’s very likely they’ll do the same for you. Other people aren’t always your competition! you can read more about this in our guide to get more poshmark followers

There are two ways you can share your listings on poshmark:

Share poshmark listings automatically

Use a Poshmark bot to automate the task for you. One of the efficient ways to operate your business on poshmark is to use bots for a variety of repetitive tasks. These bots tend to be kind of like a browser extension that you can find via a quick Google search. While the good options are paid, you can still find Poshmark bots for free.

When it comes to sharing your listings directly in Poshmark, these little helpers are perfect. You can set them up to share directly across different app sections:

  • To a feed. Sharing your whole closet to your follower’s feeds 2-3 times a day will ensure your listings are constantly being pushed for them to see. Sharing to feeds also helps push your products to the top of the search results page.
  • To a Poshmark party. These are real-time virtual shopping events based on themes that shoppers can join and browse. Things like a specific brand, style of clothing, or sizing group. It’s great for generating engagement and getting your listings in front of your target customers.

Share manually

If bots aren’t an option for you, there are still other useful manual ways to showcase your listings. Of course, you can go the 100% manual route which could take several clicks per item to share your entire closet but there are other options that still count as manual sharing.

The platform now offers the ability to perform bulk listing actions on your store which allows you to share several of your products at once to followers and parties with just a few clicks. You can learn more about bulk listing actions in our guide here

Another option is hiring a virtual assistant to do it for you. A VA can also help with a slew of other admin tasks so you can focus on growing your business and sourcing instead.   They can reply to customer messages, help you source pricing, analyze the competition for you, and even handle returns.  Then, you can spend that time you saved looking for new stock and researching upcoming trends and platforms to list on. You don’t have to be a large seller to consider VA’s, there are different options all accross the board.

Poshmark Tip #7: Price wisely

How much something costs is a direct representation of its quality in the customer’s eyes. Too low and they think there’s something wrong with it. Too high and they won’t shell out for it. Pricing wisely on Poshmark is key.

Here are some ways you can make sure you’re doing it correctly:

Poshmark Pricing Tips

Check out your competition on poshmark

You know how they say location, location, location is the key to buying the perfect home? Well, in business it’s competition, competition, competition. Look at what other sellers priced similar items at. Research if they actually sold it or if it’s still available. That information is public knowledge and free of charge, so take advantage of it!

Look on other marketplaces to find the right price

This is one of those Poshmark tips that can make or break your success on the platform.Your competition isn’t only on the same platform you’re listing on. They’re also on other marketplaces. Do some sleuthing on eBay, Depop, TheRealReal, Mercari, and ThreadUp. Take notes of what you see is working there, and what isn’t – then apply it to your store.

Look at the orginal price

In the world of fashion reselling it’s pretty normal to price items at 50-70% off the original retail price. While some variations are applicable depending on the item type (luxury bags will have a smaller reduction), this is pretty universal. With that in mind, you need to know what the original price was. Do some research on the brand’s website, or any third-party resellers that offer that same item.

Consider the fees!

When listing your item it is easy to forget that poshmark takes fees! Trust me you’ll remember when you see your sales report. You should be utilizing a poshmark fee calculator to see what your profit/margin will be when you list an item at a specific price.

Poshmark Tip #8: Reach Out To Potential Customers

Respond as fast as possible

You can receive comments from people on poshmark regarding your item, one of our poshmark tips is to make sure that you do not leave people waiting too long to receive a response. The faster you respond, the quicker you can make a potential sale on poshmark. It can be hard to do this all the time and we get it, as we mentioned previously you can cut down on the need for this greatly if your listings are clear enough.

Send Offers

Another killer piece of advice in our poshmark tips is to use the features provided by Poshmark to send offers to potential customers. Poshmark’s Send Offer feature allows you to notify users that have liked your items previously of any discounts on the item. This can be a good way for you to clear out your poshmark closet and sell items that haven’t sold in some time. Be sure to try and target these offers on days that are most likely to increase conversion.

Before you decide to go “crazy” with sending out offers, remember that you are running a small business and you need to be making some money to make any of this worth it. So be sure to double check that you aren’t taking any huge losses with this strategy.

Poshmark Tip #9: Hack the Poshmark Algorithm

We use the word hack lightly here, you don’t actually need to know anything about computer science! Understanding how the platform’s structure works behind the scenes is incredibly useful. The algorithm is the system in charge of choosing what members will see when looking for products via the search bar. So, you want to make sure you’re following the rules they set so your listing is top of the lineup. While the inner workings of the poshmark algorithm is not exactly public there are some obvious things that can help you out:

SEO keywords

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It’s the rules behind the coding of a search engine (like Google, or Poshmark’s search bar) that determine what is going to be shown on the results page first. One way to position yourself well is by using keywords. These are specific words or phrases people type in when looking for similar items as what you’re offering. For example, if someone is searching for black Lululemon leggings they’re probably going to enter those exact words. If your listing doesn’t include them then they won’t see your product.

Try to put yourself in the customer’s shoes and think about what you’d use to look up your item. Then use that in your listing title and description!

Updating your listings

On Poshmark, all feeds are automatically sorted by “last shared” items at the top. This is true for search results pages as well as normal feeds and parties. So, sharing your listings on the regular (more than once a day) will ensure you’re always at the top of wherever the customer is looking at.

Not sharing makes the algorithm think you’re not active on the platform. So, the longer you go without sharing a listing, the further down it’ll be on search results pages and feeds. For those familiar with how eBay listings work, for example, it’s like a free promoted listing!

Poshmark Tip #10: Take advantage of social media

Sharing within Poshmark alone isn’t the only way to get your listings out there. Your personal social media is also an excellent option when it comes to getting more traffic into your store.

The people that follow you (even if you’re not a huge influencer) already trust you because they know you, so you’re one step closer to a sale by targeting them. And, if it’s not them who end up buying it could be someone they know instead.

The platform even has the option of connecting your social profiles like Twitter, Pinterest, or Facebook directly to your Poshmark account. This makes it super easy and quick to share new listings within one click.

To access this feature go to your Account Settings. Then scroll all the way down until you find the Share Settings option. From there, you can hook up your social profiles, and then you’re good to go.

Poshmark Tip #11: Invest Time and/or Money To Grow

An essential tip is that you need to invest in your growth. Once you gain a bit of momentum on poshmark it is critical that you use some of the profits you have made to investing in time saving tools that make you work more efficiently and accurately. There are tools that can help you:

  • List items quicker – crosslisting apps like selleraider’s crosslister
  • Ship items quicker – thermal label printers (for shipping labels)
  • Edit photos quicker – remove.bg

Investment is not just financial, it can also mean spending time reading content and learning skills that will help you grow your poshmark business. If you are reading an article like this you are already way ahead of the curve when it comes to investing time to grow.

Poshmark Tip #12: Crosslist to other marketplaces

All the Poshmark tips you’ll read here are incredibly useful, this one however, might be one of the top ones. This might come as a surprise to some, but there’s no rule that says if you post on one platform you can’t post on another. Cross-posting is your friend when it comes to building your bank account. If your objective is to make money, throw that net as far as you possibly can. Try selling your pieces on eBay (their customers love second-hand designer stuff), on Depop (great for more street style pieces), or even Mercari (a great option for accessories).

Doing this manually can be a pain! fortunately, you don’t have to. Crosslisting tools can help you automatically post on different marketplaces.

You can try our crosslisting tool for FREE here

At the end of the day if you’re selling a product people want and like it then you will know. Just do works best for you and wherever your target customer tends to hang out, that’s where you should go.
